Impac Prequal
Impac assesses contractors against two different frameworks: its own PREQUAL standard, and Tōtika. They are separate products with separate requirements, and only the Tōtika one counts if your client asked for Tōtika. Check which one you are buying before you pay for it.
Who asks for it
Asset owners, utilities, local government and large contractors who use Impac to manage the businesses they engage. If your client's procurement portal mentions Impac or PREQUAL, this is the one.
How you're assessed
You complete an online assessment and upload your evidence, and a New Zealand-based assessor reviews it and grades the quality of what you have produced.
Your score decides how long the result lasts, which is the part most people miss. Sixty per cent or higher is good for two years. Thirty to fifty-nine per cent is good for one year. Under thirty per cent and you are back through it again in six months.
So a rushed submission does not just score badly. It puts you through the whole exercise twice as often.
Categories
Impac's PREQUAL categories run on headcount, from sole trader up through small, medium and larger contractors, with a separate category for main or controlling contractors. Its Tōtika categories are different again and follow the Tōtika rules, which we explain on our Tōtika page.
What we do
First we work out which of the two you have actually been asked for, so you are not paying for the wrong assessment. Then we write the policies and procedures you're missing and rebuild the ones that aren't earning their keep - so they describe how your crew really works, rather than how a template says they should. Get that right and the assessment largely looks after itself; get it wrong and you've got a folder nobody opens.
Records and certificates come from you - we tell you exactly which ones and chase them up if that helps. We get everything loaded and ready, you hit submit, and we answer the assessor's follow-up questions.
Health and safety law is changing over the next couple of years, and we're keeping across it so your system stays current.
We're not an assessor and we're not connected to any scheme. We can't influence the outcome, and nobody honestly can guarantee a result.
